  • Neither Wolf Nor Dog

February 20, 2019 @ 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm and 6:30 – 9:00 pm
Itasca Community College, 1851 US-169, Grand Rapids, MN

The Circle of Healing has partnered with Itasca Community College and the MN Dept of Corrections to bring the author, Kent Nerburn, to Grand Rapids, along with the film made from his best-selling novel, Neither Wolf Nor Dog.

Kent Nerburn is the first to say his is not the ultimate insider, but as a white male he has had the rare opportunity and good fortune to journey into one of the least understood, and yet most fundamental minority groups, of all those in America – the culture of the Native American. This story and the lessons it conveys needs to be herd.

The screenings will begin with a blessing and end with discussion time. Admission is free and donations will be accepted to help fund a playground project in Ball Club.

MacRostie Art Center is pleased to announce in its February series of Artist Talks, an evening with local jewelry-maker Lily Winter.

For nearly a decade, Lily Winter’s signature style of jewelry has been that of re-purposed silver trays and painted metals. Her business savvy has proved beneficial in the jewelry world as she’s been selling her unique and well-crafted wares as her primary source of income for the past six years. But times they are a-changing. Lily attended nine weeks of coursework under jewelry instructor Alan Revere and the experience drastically changed how she thinks about design.

  • CenterStageMN – Pert Near Sandstone

February 21, 2019 @ 7:30 pm – 8:45 pm
Reif Performing Arts Center, 720 NW Conifer Dr, Grand Rapids, MN

It was roughly a decade ago that Pert Near Sandstone first gathered around a microphone in a Minneapolis basement to record their debut album, Up And Down The River. So much has happened since then: highs and lows, personal struggles and artistic triumphs, new faces and new sounds. The winding road they’ve traveled over the years makes it all the more meaningful for the band to come full circle on their dazzling new release, Discovery Of Honey, which finds them once again recording in a basement and reuniting with founding member Ryan Young, who’s spent the past seven years touring the world playing fiddle with bluegrass stars Trampled By Turtles.
