Join MacRostie Art Center for an international art expedition as we travel to Canada to visit the Winnipeg Art Gallery and take part in Winnipeg’s Festival du Voyageur. “INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE is the WAG’s largest-ever exhibition of contemporary Indigenous art and includes work by artists across Canadian territories and nations. Festival du Voyageur is the largest winter festival in western Canada with outdoor activities, food, music, markets, and more. The fee for this weekend includes 2 nights lodging in downtown Winnipeg, round-trip travel from Grand Rapids, and admission to WAG, Festival du Voyageur, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s Charlie Chaplin film night. Current Passport Required. MAC members get a $20 discount. $280. Deadline to sign up is Feb. 9.

Mac Open Studio. Free to MAC members or $5/session for non-members, this informal group is open to artists of all skill levels working in any 2-dimensional medium. Bring your latest project and create your art in a supportive community! No instruction is provided, but plenty of advice, critique, and feedback is available from the group. 6 – 8:30 pm

Open Pottery. Instructor: Bruce Bartos, $15 each/ $10 student. Join area potters and students of all skill levels in this informal, on-going weekly class. The instructor will be on hand to give one-on-one guidance and tips about techniques, glazes, and firings. Call by noon on Tuesday to register for that day’s session 218-326-2697. Winter Dance Party. An authentic recreation of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper’s final tour, and the only show endorsed by the stars’ estates. The performance includes over two hours of unbridled, high voltage entertainment featuring all the hit songs of the 50’s era: That’ll Be the Day, Peggy Sue, La Bamba, Chantilly Lace, and many more. $32. Petra and the Wolf. A new work for young audiences inspired from the Prokofiev classic Peter and the Wolf, with captivating large-scale puppetry by Glass Half Full Theatre and a new instrumental score written and performed live by Mother Falcon, a band NPR describes as “the little orchestra that can seemingly do the impossible.” This original work introduces the mischievous but fearless Petra, the granddaughter of the fabled Peter. When a wolf threatens her home and animal friends, her adventures become a showcase of bravery and compassion. Family audiences will walk away from this stunning piece of visual & musical storytelling with a new sense of empathy for the animals that share our earth. Produced by Lionheart Youth Theatre.
