Area arts July 5 – 8

The annual downtown art fair just gets bigger and bigger every
year. This year a 5k color fun run is new. Walk or run while
experiencing a rush of color.


All Month

Exquisite Nature. Intricate, graceful, thought-provoking and prolific — these are all words that have been used to describe the elaborate masterwork of Leah Yellowbird. Originally a traditional bead-worker, she identifies strongly with her First Nations Algonquin-Metis and Anishinaabe heritage. Also Human Conditions. Meghan Sullivan combines ceramics with ceramic tiles and wall sculptures. Closes July 6. MacRostie Art Center. 405 NW 1st Ave.

Artists in Residence: Mary Corwin, Annie Humphrey, David Dobbs, Chelsey Johnson, Brittany Benson and butterfly mobiles by Dan Root. 3rd floor Historic Central School.

Art on the Edge. Multiple artists whose work has been chosen by juror Sarah Brokke Erickson. This event is free to the public. Thursdays – Fridays. 10 am – 4 pm. Edge Center for the Arts. 102 2nd Ave. Bigfork.

Thursday, July 6

6:30 -10 pm

Open figure drawing. This group meets weekly to draw from a live model. No instruction is provided and participants must provide their own materials. Poses usually range from 15 minute to 30 minutes. Serious artists of all levels are welcome to join this group. Please note that models are sometimes nude.  10 sessions. $40 a month.  MacRostie Art Center 405 NW 1st Ave.

Friday, July 7

4 – 7 pm

First Friday Art Walk. Grand Rapids has a thriving arts community! We celebrate this first Friday of every month with a downtown art walk from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm. Hop from business to business and enjoy a gallery and art displays, listen to live music, meet the artists, and indulge in food and drink. Downtown Art Fair. MacRostie Art Center presents its annual summer art fair — a community celebration of art and creativity! The Downtown Art Fair will take place on Saturday, July 8 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on the Historic Central School grounds in downtown Grand Rapids.
