of the holiday season.

For the month of December, the MacRostie Gallery is transformed into a holiday marketplace featuring a variety of handmade gifts from local artists. Also Birds: Duluth artist Becca Mulenburg showcases some of the birds drawn to her attention over the past few years in oil paintings.  MacRostie Art Center. 405 NW 1st Ave.

Tuesday, November 28

10 am – 4 pm

Mac Open Studio. Free to MAC members or $5/session for non-members, this informal group is open to artists of all skill levels working in any 2-dimensional medium. Bring your latest project and create your art in a supportive community! No instruction is provided, but plenty of advice, critique, and feedback is available from the group. MacRostie Art Center. 405 1st Ave NW.

6 – 8:30 pm

Open Pottery. Instructor: Bruce Bartos, $15 each/ $10 student. Join area potters and students of all skill levels in this informal, on-going weekly class. The instructor will be on hand to give one-on-one guidance and tips about techniques, glazes, and firings. Call by noon on Tuesday to register for that day’s session 218-326-2697. First Friday Art Walk. Grand Rapids has a thriving arts community. We celebrate this the First Friday of every month with a downtown art walk. Hop from business to business to enjoy art displays, listen to live music, meet the artists, and indulge in food and drink. 6 – 9 pm

Wine, Paint, Canvas. Be guided by an experienced educator from start to finish through the creation of a new painting at each event. Drinks will be available for purchase throughout the duration of the event and there will be plenty of breaks to socialize, too. Absolutely no art experience is required. John Berry Christmas. Mention his name to just about any country music lover and the response will likely be, “What a voice!” Berry’s incredible tenor has delivered chart-topping singles such as “Your Love Amazes Me,” “Standing on the Edge of Goodbye,” “I Think About It All the Time,” “Change My Mind,” and “You and Only You.” But it was his stunning performance of the title track of the 1995 CD O Holy Night that led to his most enduring legacy.
