First Friday Art Walk – August 3, 2018

1. FRAME UP

Christy Cole will be in house to display her latest creations.  You won’t want to miss her reduction prints inspired by traditional tattoo design.  Plus music by JoAnn Heikkila on dulcimer.

2. VFW POST 1720

Sam Miltich and Friends present live jazz from 7 – 10 pm. They will be joined by special guests Charmin Michelle on vocals and Nathan Norman on drums. The VFW is open to all!

3.WINGS ‘N WILLOWS ART GALLERY & CUSTOM FRAMING

Welcoming local favorite Mary Shideler aka “The Kayak Lady“.  Mary is loved for her nature photography as well as her self published book The Kayak Lady: One Woman, One Kayak, 1007 Lakes—a memoir that includes color photographs.  Join us for an evening of laughs and pixie dust!

4. LAKE LOVER VINTAGE

Lake Lover Vintage will feature handmade signs, custom cabin/house signs and custom lake maps by in-house artist and store owner Kathy LaDoux. Join us for treats by Boondock Enterprises! 

5. PROJECT CARE FREE CLINIC

Area artist Pamela K. Edwards will be in the house with her “black light specialty” paintings.  Stop in under the lights and view the original inspiration of the Maori indigenous people of New Zealand. She will also have many of her witty and soulful pieces of caricature drawings on display. Refreshments and treats will be provided. 

6. MOXIE

Join us as we celebrate the 1st Anniversary of our Grand Rapids location! New original pieces from some of our favorite jewelry designers and artists, refreshments and giveaways. Plus take 20% off your purchase from 4-7 pm as a thank you for all of the support over the past year.

Loon Country Quilters at Central Square Mall

7. CENTRAL SQUARE MALL

On display will be works by the Loon Country Quilters. This quilting guild meets monthly with programs including learning opportunities, demonstrations, charitable projects, an annual members show, and more. Plus treats by Deborah Bieganski of SWEET “little” THINGS.

8. VILLAGE BOOKSTORE

Author Grant Merritt will be at The Village Bookstore from 4pm-6pm promoting his book “Iron and Water”, a memoir of his life’s work with MN environment, and also the history of his family.

9. GRAND RAPIDS AREA LIBRARY FOUNDATION

Kids are invited to make their own book at the Grand Rapids Area Library Annual Book Sale held at the Central Square Mall. Supplies, refreshments, and a book bag from Paul Bunyan Communications will be provided.

10. CRAFTED BY ITASCA LIFE OPTIONS

CRAFTED is a program of Itasca Life Options that works to empower and provide opportunities to artists of all abilities. Each piece of artwork was made by a person with a developmental or physical disability.  Stop in and see their latest creations!

Presenting the 26th Annual Juried Art Show and an exhibit by juror Pauline Sameshima. With food sponsored by Brewed Awakenings, wine and other refreshments, and an award ceremony at 6 pm.

Come down for Meet the Brewer with Klockow Brewing of Grand Rapids. For a free will donation, enjoy a guided tour from the experts. 10% of store purchases will benefit United Way of 1000 Lakes.

Showcasing Autumn Maki, a GRHS freshman who works in colored pencil and watercolor to create her artwork.

Hosting local artist Ryan Brubaker with his collection of handmade jewelry and one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces. He showcases the natural beauty of each stone with his simple designs that use Lake Superior agates and other stones such as moss agates and fossils.

  • YARNWORKS

Carol Rajala Johnson of Studio Tupla will be at Yarnworks doing a weaving demonstration and displaying a selection of her woven works for sale.

14. BREWED AWAKENINGS

August’s featured artist is Seth Larson with a collection of paintings and drawings. Meet the artist and enjoy music by Michaela Smith on guitar, a dinner special, coffee, and treats.
