First Friday Art Walk – December 7, 2018

Come to Downtown Grand Rapids from 4 – 7 pm on the First Friday of each month for a community celebration of art and creativity. All events are free unless noted and families are welcome.

  1. FRAME UP

Stop in for hot cider and cookies and to chat with Minnesota artist Adam Swanson whose murals decorate Duluth and who recently completed an artist residency aboard and Antarctic research vessel.  From trees to robots, Adam’s work is sure to inspire.

2. MOVE IT REAL ESTATE

Tamarick Designs at Move It Real Estate

Tammy Horton of Tamarick Designs creates beautiful pieces using sustainably sourced and repurposed materials for men & women. They make unique and thoughtful gifts. Stubby’s BBQ will also be selling slow-smoked BBQ sandwiches —  proceeds will go to Second Harvest North Central Food Bank.

3. COMPUTER ENTERPRISES

Meg Muller of Natural Expressions will display her vintage illuminated winter jars, photo cards, and driftwood and bead mobiles. Plus music by Kathleen Preece on bagpipes!

4. VFW POST 1720

Live jazz with Sam Miltich and Friends with special guest John Ely on steel guitar. Open to members and the public. No cover! 7 – 10 pm.

5. WINGS ‘N WILLOWS ART GALLERY & CUSTOM FRAMING

Welcoming Country Stichin-n-Stuff by Linda Bernard. Linda has been sewing and crafting for over 40 years and will be featuring her latest Christmas Santa’s, snowmen and women and holiday arrangements! You gotta see this!  

6. MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND JEWELERS

Hosting a Warm Winter Wishes Party that features Jennifer Fossell and her Upcycled Mittens. Its that time of the year again — we all need our warm and fuzzy mittens.  Come early for best selection and while your here, make sure Santa knows what to get you this year.  Get a free gift with every wish list.

Meredith Latimer Berg at the Lake + Co

Presenting our annual Artists Open House.  Stop in and visit with some of the in-house artists and have some Minnesota made treats. Enjoy our annual handmade ornament display and check out our locally made gifts! Specials throughout the store!

Celebrate the giving season with make and take art station! All shop purchases will be 10% off from 4-7 and 10% of sales will be donated to the Itasca Orchestra and Strings Program.

Empowering artists of all abilities! Each piece of artwork was made by a person with a developmental or physical disability.  Stop in and see their latest creations and great gift ideas.

Welcoming author Michael D. Goldsmith for a meet-the-author event and book signing from 4pm-6pm. He will have his “Eli the Greatness” series and his book “The Man who Built the Cross.” 

10. STAINED GLASS WITH CLASS

Hosting the Deer River 127-A-Capella Vocal Ensemble directed by Lenora Evans from 4:45 – 6 pm. Stop by for a great night of Christmas music.

Alison Aune at MacRostie Art Center

Meredith Latimer Berg of Meredith Jane Designs will be in the Lake + Co. Shop with a selection of her watercolor cards, prints and artwork. She will also be personalizing our staff-favorite Apolis tote bags with her calligraphy. Buy a tote bag and have it personalized on the spot (while supplies last).

Presenting a new exhibit by Duluth painter Alison Aune in the Minnesota Gallery along with the annual Northern Spirit Shop holiday marketplace, Wreath Auction fundraiser, holiday music by Darcy Reich, food and wine, and a trunk show with M’lou Brubaker.

Visit with the Artists in the Attic to see what creative antics Mary Myers Corwin, David Dobbs and Leah Yellowbird have been up to.

  • YARNWORKS

Artist Dave Browne will demonstrate his woven painting technique. He uses conventional weaving techniques in unconventional ways with materials like fishing line, hammered copper wire, specialty yarns, grapevines, sinew, and acrylic inks to create woven mythical landscapes. Plus music by the St. Joseph’s Church Choir and friends!

14. BREWED AWAKENINGS

December’s featured artists are Nikki and Tessa Behr and photographer Jordan Weis. Sisters and MN-based country singers Nikki and Tessa will also be providing the music for the evening!
