First Friday Art Walk – July 5, 2019

Come to downtown Grand Rapids, MN from 4 – 7 pm for this fun, free, community event celebrating the arts. All are welcome and all events are free unless noted.

 

FIRST FRIDAY FOOD TRUCK! Chad’s Meat Wagon
Located in the Kremer’s Parking Lot (Hwy 2 and 1st Ave NW)

1. ITASCA COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Follow up your First Friday Art Walk with the popular Pines and Mines Ghost tour leaving at 8:30 pm from Itasca County Historical Society. The fee is $10 per person – call 218-326-6431 to register.

2. FRAME UP
Kellie Rae Theiss with her dog Izzy will be displaying new work! Kellie’s take on natural images such as turtles, birds and fish look right at home in our environment. While enjoying Kellie’s work come listen to Michaela Smith rocking out on her ukulele.

3. PROJECT CARE FREE CLINIC
Welcoming new Executive Director Tiffany Schleppegrell with an open house street festival. The Fish Heads, a folk and bluegrass duo from Duluth will be playing while artist/educator Shannon Fitch will be showcasing child artworks and her collection of whimsy and writings. If the sun is shining, there will be added art and craft booths set up outside. Refreshments and good eats are on tap for a festive night of good music, art and camaraderie.

4. VFW POST 1720
Presenting live jazz with Sam Miltich and Friends. The featured guest is Doug Haining on winds, and he will join Sam, Matthew Miltich on bass, and Jay Epstein on drums. Open to members and the public. 7 – 10 pm.

5. WINGS & WILLOWS ART GALLERY AND CUSTOM FRAMING
Welcoming award winning collage/watercolor artist Kelli Lien. Kelli is offering a free mini collage workshop where you can learn to “paint with paper”…and you get keep your creation! Bring your creativity and join us for this fun event!

6. LAKE LOVER VINTAGE
Lake Lover Vintage will be doing a fun make and take of our infamous Bobber Lanterns! Join us to make your own! Each lighted lantern is $10. Treats will be served.

7. ITASCA VINTAGE CAR CLUB
Stop by the parking lot at the corner of Hwy 2 and 1st Ave NW (old Kremer’s lot) for a First Friday Car Show, and enjoy BBQ from Chad’s Meat Wagon. All vintage or special interest cars are welcome.

8. CENTRAL SQUARE MALL

  • CRAFTED BY ITASCA LIFE OPTIONS
    Empowering artists of all abilities! Each piece of artwork was made by a person with a developmental or physical disability. Stop in and see their latest creations and great gift ideas.
  • MALL CENTER COURT  Maggie Fuller will be signing copies of her debut novel “Saving The Ghost” from 4-6. Stop and get your copy signed by her and enjoy a cup of coffee.

9. BENDER’S SHOES
Join Bender’s as they welcome guest artist Lori Harter. Lori is an oil painter whose favorite subjects are landscapes, animals, and fantasy art. Come in, visit with Lori, and see her paintings, prints and cards.

10. MACROSTIE ART CENTER
Presenting two new exhibits for July: bog photography by Meg Ojala and an installation by MAC’s inaugural Visiting Artist Athena LaTocha. Music by Ariana Aitken, food by Nana Chelle’s Cafe, plus wine and other refreshments and artist talks at 6 pm.

11. STAINED GLASS WITH CLASS
Hosting Cyndi Ganter of Cyndbird Designs with decorative habitats for birds and hand crafted birdhouses. Come check out these one of kind birdhouses.

12. OLD CENTRAL SCHOOL

  • Visit the Artists in the Attic on the 3rd floor including Mary Myers Corwin, David Dobbs, Whitney Leming-Salisbury, Aaron Olson Reiners, and Leah Yellowbird. There is always something new to see in these artists’ studios.
  • OCS is hosting a Storytelling Audio Exhibit by MN Interfaith Power and Light. Listen to voices tell their stories in an Environmental Ancestry Storytelling audio exhibit… you might even be inspired to tell your own.

13. BREWED AWAKENINGS
July’s featured artwork is a showcase of three generations of artists from the family of Barb Popkin. The evening will include music by folk singer and storyteller Danny Friedman from 4 – 6 pm.

14. UNWINED UP NORTH
UnWined Up North is excited to join the First Friday Art Walk with their first event featuring photographer Jordan Weiss plus live music, and, of course, wine!
