First Friday Art Walk – November 1, 2019

The First Friday Art Walk takes place in downtown Grand Rapids from 4 – 7 pm. It is a community event celebrating art and creativity. Events are family friendly and free unless noted. All are welcome!

1. REIF CENTER

Presenting Rumours at 7 pm. The premier Fleetwood Mac tribute band in the country, Rumours captures the energy of Fleetwood Mac at the height of their career by blending perfect harmonies, precise instrumentation, and a visually engaging stage show. The band’s dedication to recreating the Fleetwood Mac experience has skyrocketed their popularity, garnering a loyal fan base. Tickets $40.

3. VFW POST 1720  

Presenting live jazz with Sam Miltich and Friends. Featured guest vocalist Charmin Michelle will join the band for an evening of swinging jazz standards. Open to members and the public. 7 – 10 pm. 

4. WINGS ‘N WILLOWS ART GALLERY AND CUSTOM FRAMING

Featuring the earrings of Kim E Young. Kim makes a variety of earrings including hand painted metal, silver plate and Icelandic fish leather earrings.  Many colors, shapes and styles are available just in time for the gift giving season. Join Kim from 4 to 6:30 pm.

5. CENTRAL SQUARE MALL

Local Author James Luger will be signing copies of his first novel, Lost in Dalat. James, a Vietnam Veteran returned there for research for this book, an adventurous page turner you will want to pick up.

6. CRAFTED BY ITASCA LIFE OPTIONS

Empowering artists of all abilities! Each piece of artwork was made by a person with a cognitive or physical disability.  Stop in and see their newly remodeled studio and shop and check out the artists’ latest creations. 

7. BENDER’S SHOES

Showcasing watercolor paintings by retired Grand Rapids High School Art teacher & founding member of the TWSA, Nora C. Stevens.

8. MACROSTIE ART CENTER

Presenting “Beyond Borders,” an Indigenous Invitational exhibit in the MacRostie Gallery and an installation by Lisa Bergh in the Minnesota Gallery. With food by Forest Lake Restaurant, live music by Maria Annoni, wine and other refreshments, and artist talks at 6 pm.   

9. THE LAKE + CO SHOP

Join The Lake and Company for the grand re-opening of their shop, and help them celebrate the national expansion their publications, LAKE magazine and Lake Wed Magazine.

10.OLD CENTRAL SCHOOL

GET FIT ITASCA 

Visit with artists Aaron Squadroni and Leah Yellowbird to learn about the canoe sculpture by the new pedestrian bridge over the Mississippi River. This sculpture is part of an active living project that was funded by an AARP Community Challenge grant. 

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE Visit the Artists in the Attic on the 3rd floor: Mary Myers Corwin will be in the studio and you can also check on the work by artists David Dobbs, Whitney Leming-Salisbury, and Leah Yellowbird on display.

2nd ANNUAL HOLIDAY VENDOR EVENT IN OLD CENTRAL SCHOOL

  • Abby, owner of The Plaid Buffalo takes chalk painting and sign making to the next level of fun with her quirky sayings, color schemes and professional artist quality work
  • Katie Jane Made will have handmade handbags, car totes, reusable snack bags and so much more!  Made with vibrant, fun prints.
  • Wine Creations will be here with samples as well as holiday gift ideas!
  • Handmade On Lake Time is a local crafter that will be showcasing knit hats, farmhouse style signs, and hand stamped book stacks. 
  • Andrew Kringen creates original, functional & decorative designs combining wood inlay & laminated wood as mirrors, jewelry, cutting boards & vases. 
  • Dawnette Davis designs and creates one of a kind hand dyed silk wearables including scarves, shawls and cover ups using over-dyeing techniques with natural & silk dyes as well as hand felted items. 
  • 45 Degrees North creates wooden mosaics out of new and reclaimed wood and will have some new piece on display!  
  • {moxie} is a Clothing/gift/Baby boutique and will be featuring women’s clothing and accessories XS-1X plus gift and baby items. 
  • Scarf Weather has chunky handmade scarves in unique fabrics.

    Heidi Leppala is a local artist who will be showcasing paintings as well as wooden signs.

11. BREWED AWAKENINGS 

November will feature art by the artists of all abilities from Crafted by Itasca Life Options. With music by Jake Place from 4 – 6 pm.

12. UNWINED UP NORTH

Welcoming artist Craig Holgate. Craig started crafting to keep his mind off of his health. He makes hand crafted items with a rustic flair that cover many seasons, including one of a kind ornaments. All of his items are under $10.00 and 25% of his proceeds are donated to the Angel Fund to help others who are battling cancer.
