First Friday Art Walk – August 5, 2022

Come to downtown Grand Rapids from 4 – 7 pm for a fun, free, family-friendly event celebrating art and creativity. All events are free unless noted.

Welcoming Jerry Rengo who will be displaying his handmade knives.

 

  1. GIINAWIND CREATIVE SPACE

Showcasing paintings, quillwork, and beadwork by Leah Yellowbird, juror of the MAC’s 30th Annual Juried Show. Also on view are sculptures and watercolors by Dewey Goodwin.

    Annual Juried show at MAC

Celebrating the opening of the 30th Annual Juried Art Show with juror Leah Yellowbird. Selected works feature 33 different artists from the Upper Midwest. A reception with food, wine and other beverages will take place from 4 – 7 pm and awards presentation at 6 pm.

 

  1. BENDER’S SHOES AND GIFTS

Hosting Gitona King, the owner and creator at This Sweet Child. She designs and creates handmade baby and kids’ quilts, blankets, and accessories that are trendy and modern as well as soft, comfortable, and cozy. Check out her latest styles!

 

  1. OLD CENTRAL SCHOOL
  • First Friday Concert Series: The Third Coast Chamber Collective presents a free concert of lively tunes from tangos to classical music to movie themes. The concert is from 5-6 pm in the 2nd floor performance space and is free and open to all.

  • Story Art and Museum: Do you remember that first book you read on your own which excited your imagination? Was it a book of fantasy? realistic fiction? science fiction? biography? Stop by and share the work that inspired you, see our story art exhibits, and sign-up for fall classes.
  • Artists in the Attic: Head up to the 3rd floor to see work by the new Artists in Residence: Veda Edwards, Cody Geisler, and Chelsey Jo Johnson.
  • Central School Grounds: Visit the Borealis Creamery Ice Cream Truck for homemade, hand-scooped ice cream in a variety of flavors.
