First Friday Art Walk – September 2, 2022

Come to downtown Grand Rapids from 4 – 7 pm for a fun, free, family-friendly event celebrating art and creativity. All events are free unless noted.

 

  1. STAINED GLASS WITH CLASS

    Kyle Pearson at Stained Glass with Class

Welcoming Kyle Pearson with his variety of blacksmithing goods. From knives to coat hooks to candle holders. He hand-makes everything, including stitching the sheaths for any knives he makes.

 

  1. GIINAWIND CREATIVE SPACE

Hosting a closing reception for the exhibit of artwork by Dewey Goodwin and Leah Yellowbird and celebrating the opening of a new immersive installation “The Changing Room.”

 

  1. MACROSTIE ART CENTER

Celebrating the opening of “Day Dreaming” by ceramic artist Peter Jadoonath in the Minnesota Gallery. A reception with food, wine and other beverages will take place from 4 – 7 pm with artist talks at 6 pm.

 

  1. BENDER’S SHOES AND GIFTS

    Peter Jadoonath at MacRostie Art Center

Hosting Bender’s very own Beth Beddoe of “Ad-tiques.” She uses a stained glass technique to preserve tiny advertising treasures from the early 1900’s and also creates up-cycled trees from framing remnants.

 

  1. OLD CENTRAL SCHOOL
  • Story Art and Museum: Stop by to check out the stereopticon – this slide projector or “magic lantern” of the 1800s and 1900s provided entertainment before the advent of moving pictures.
  • Artists in the Attic: Head up to the 3rd floor to visit the artists in residence: Veda Edwards, Cody Geisler, and Chelsey Jo Johnson.

 

  1. CENTRAL SCHOOL GROUNDS

Enjoy a free concert on the lawn with Annie Humphrey at 5 pm followed by Lanue at 6pm. The Borealis Creamery Ice Cream Truck will be scooping homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors.

Hosting a First Friday Show-n-Shine at the old Kremer’s lot on the corner of Hwy 2 and 1st Ave NW with Bobcats Lunchbox food truck on site. Open to all collector cars of any age.

Celebrating First Friday with art by Lea Friesen, live music by Vocal Perspective, food by Pinched Catering, and sweets by Miss Sara’s Northern Treats.

Presenting live music by Sam Miltich from 4 – 6 pm and Ten Crow Moon from 7 – 10 pm.
