March 7 First Friday Art Walk

First Fridays are a celebration of art and community in downtown Grand Rapids. The events take place between 4 and 8 pm. Unless noted otherwise, all events are free and open to all!

1. GRAND RAPIDS STATE BANK Please join us at the Financial Services Center (506 NW 2nd Ave) from 4 – 7 pm as we unveil “A Day in the Life”, an exhibition by four outstanding photographers chronicling the many facets of life in the Grand Rapids area. The photographers will be present to share their work as well as their favorites. Refreshments provided.A-Day-in-the-Life-Slider_0

2. MACROSTIE ART CENTER Presenting two new exhibitions for March: portraits and first-person narratives in Homeless Is My Address, Not My Name and the Local Color watermedia exhibit. With food and wine, music by the Raging Grannies at 5 pm, and artists talks at 6pm.

3. THE YARN GALLERY Featuring felting artist extraordinaire Ann Blade. She will be demonstrating how she creates those beautiful felted wall hangings and 3D art using only a needle and raw wool.

4. STAINED GLASS WITH CLASS Showcasing handcrafted glass artwork including vases, bowls, suncatchers, and more – all fired in our new glass kiln. Come see what’s new! Open until 7 pm.

Central School5. CENTRAL SCHOOL ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE Introducing the newest Artists in Residence: Lory Worthing and Aaron Squadroni. Visit their new studio space on the THIRD FLOOR of Central School to see their works in progress and hear their plans for their residency.

6. VFW POST 1720 Live jazz with Sam Miltich and Friends from 7 – 10 pm.

7. WINGS ‘N WILLOWS ART GALLERY & CUSTOM FRAMING Featuring the art of Rhonda Roskos, an award-winning artist widely recognized for her detailed paintings of horses which will be on display.  Rhonda will also be signing copies of the children’s book she illustrated “The Midnight Hour”.

8. FRAME UP The women of Frame Up will be showing each of their special talents. Chris, Deb, Heather, and Amanda will be displaying their art in wool, drawings, folded paper, and wire sculpture. Come visit as Frame Up celebrates 32 years of business! rainbow colored skin

9. BREWED AWAKENINGS March’s featured artists are Hannah and Troy Barnes from Primo Ink with artwork, digital photography, and their book, “Rainbow Colored Skin.” Music by the Raging Grannies at 4:30 pm, Local Perspective at 5 pm, a dinner special until 6:30, and complimentary coffee & cookies.

10. REIF CENTER Presenting the Reif Dance Company Show at 7:30 pm. Enjoy some of the greatest dance talent in the region perform a wide variety of dance styles.
