First Friday Art Walk – September 4, 2026

Come downtown to celebrate the arts and artists during the Art Walk! Events are held 4 – 7 pm with live music continuing later. All events are free unless noted, and all are welcome!  [Above image: Karen Olson at Free Range Food Co-op.]

Lake Superior Watercolor Society at the Reif

1. REIF GALLERY

Join the Lake Superior Watercolor Society for a closing reception for their exhibit celebrating the organization’s 45th anniversary. Over 40 paintings on display! Light refreshments provided by the Reif Center.

2. NELIA HARPER & DOUG LIEN STUDIO

Stop by the lower level of the Eye Care Clinic. Nelia Harper will be demonstrating oil painting while Doug Lien demonstrates watercolor painting.

Inspirations by Samantha at Bender’s

3. BENDERS
Showcasing “Inspirations by Samantha”. Diagnosed at age 12 with the genetic disease Frederic’s ataxia, Samantha never quit doing what she loved. She uses layered wood and repurposed items to make earrings, wall hangings, & more.

4. MACROSTIE ART CENTER

Celebrating the opening of “We’ve Got  You Covered” a two-person exhibition of applique mural blankets by Rick Kagigebi and Eliza Klarer. The reception includes food and wine from 4 – 7 pm.

5. GIINAWIND CREATIVE SPACE

Hosting Sam Zimmerman for the opening of his exhibit “Wii-Tibaajimong / To Tell a Story,” which includes paintings paired with stories in Ojibwemowin and English to share cultural teachings.

6. OLD CENTRAL SCHOOL

  • Fire in the Village in Room 203 will be open with artwork on display and for sale from 4 – 6 pm.
  • Free Range Food Co-op in Room 209 is welcoming Karen Olson Pottery with a variety of hand painted under glazed pottery that is “Inspired by Nature” and the northwoods.
  • Artists in Residence in the 3rd floor artist loft include Krista Matison, Vicki Menozzi, and Jenny Winkelman. Stop by to see their studio spaces and works in progress.

7. NORTHERN CRUISERS & ITASCA VINTAGE CAR CLUBS

The car clubs are hosting their final First Friday Show-n-Shine of the season at the Old Kremer’s lot across from Old Central School from 4 – 8 pm.  This event is open to all collector cars,trucks, and motorcycles.

8. WINGS ‘N WILLOWS ART GALLERY & CUSTOM FRAMING

Meet Kimberly, a wire weaver jewelry artist, using unique cabochons, sterling silver and copper to create elaborate pendant designs. She will be demonstrating weaving hat bands on a weaving loom.

9. RAPIDS BREWING COMPANY

Live jazz from 6 – 9 pm features Sam and Matthew Miltich with special guests Gary Schulte on violin and Jay Epstein on drums.
